Meghan Markle & Prince Harry abandon social media

MPHO RANTAO

THE Duke and Duchess of Sussex have decided to step away from Twitter, Instagram and Facebook for good.

Their decision was disclosed by a source close to the couple, who told The Times of London that it is “very unlikely” that the royal duo will not return to social media due to the immense amount of “hate” they have received from online users.

The source also informed The Times of London that the couple had no plans to create social media profiles for their Archewell Foundation or return to their personal social profiles for the foreseeable future.

The pair have become disillusioned by the “hate” that they have encountered, and Markle herself has written accounts on her experience with online bullying.

Markle and the Prince made the announcement to leave social media in an Instagram post, writing that while they won’t be posting on social media anymore, the two will still be working hard behind the scenes.

The full caption reads: “While you may not see us here, the work continues”

“Thank you to this community – for the support, the inspiration and the shared commitment to the good in the world. We look forward to reconnecting with you soon. You’ve been great!”

The couple retired from their duties as senior royals almost one year ago, in a move which tabloids dubbed “Megxit”, leaving the impression that Meghan Markle was the main reason behind the move.

The marriage and Markle’s solo royal activities prompted hate and bias by social media users & traditional media platforms which has led to the Duke and Duchess battling in court.

However, in a Vanity Fair article, a source close to Prince Harry revealed that the royal exit by the Sussexes was a decision made by the Prince

“It came to the point where he wanted a different way of life. Meghan was simply the catalyst”, the insider explained.
