NIGERIAN hip-hop artist Falz (real name Folarin Folana) has been honoured by the state of Lagos, with a street named after him.
The Lagos-born rapper and actor posted a picture of himself posing under a street sign with the name “Falz Falana Lane” written boldly.
Under the picture he wrote, “Wahala for who no get street name o! (sic)”
Falana was honoured for his impact in the community, specifically with his activism in using his voice and social media presence to speak on the violence during the EndSARS campaign.
His activism has also been prominent in his music, most recently with the release of the music video for his Fela Kuti sampled single ‘Johnny’, which was created as a tribute to the victims of police brutality.
The video featured footage of police brutality and violence, as well as the recent footage from the EndSARS protests.
At the end of the video, Falana wrote in a statement, “Dedicated to our fallen heroes. #EndSARS. Justice must be served. Every single person responsible for these gruesome acts must be brought to book.
“It’s time to get our pvcs ready. The power of the people is greater than the people in power.”
Members of Nigeria’s hip-hop community and his fans celebrated Falana’s achievement, lauding him for his efforts and echoing his deserved tribute.
