AMERICAN singer Teyana Taylor entered her 30th birthday on a high, with the announcement of a new career move, after having recently retired from music.
Taylor announced on Instagram that she has been named as the new creative director for UK-based fast-fashion label, Pretty Little Thing from 2021, after a successful capsule collection that she collaborated on with them, which was in November.
The award-winning singer, model, actress and director revealed her latest creative venture a week after announcing on December 4 that she was retiring from music, after feeling as though she was underappreciated and underrated by her record label, Def Jam and the industry.
Taylor wrote on her retirement, “I ain’t gone front in times of feeling super under appreciated as a artist… I’m retiring this chapter of my story with the comfort that I can depart with peace of mind seeing that all the hard work & passion put in was indeed loved & supported somewhere in the world! To all my supporters from day 1 & all my new ones I love you and I thank you for everything & don’t worry y’all know ? all hustlers have the understanding that when one door closes another will open…either that or I’m pickin da locks petunia!!! So wassup!”
The new move is not surprising for Taylor’s fans, as the singer is known for her successful sightings in the fashion industry, whether on the runway with Phillip Plein, or on successful capsule collections with ‘Karl Kani x Pretty Little Thing’, MAC Beauty and Reebok.
On the new job role, Taylor wrote, “Remember when I said ‘when one door closes another one opens…either that or I’m picking the locks’? Well I damn sure did”.
The announcement is also a poignant move for the popular UK brand, as Pretty Little Thing are known for their lack of visible diversity in their higher positions, only expressing their diversity through past capsule collections with the likes of popular black names such as hip-hop artist Saweetie, British radio host Maya Jama, American model Jordyn Woods.
