FRIENDS and colleagues have paid warm tributes to Peter Matlare, a top South African businessman who died after a battle with COVID-19.
Matlare (61), was a deputy CEO at Absa, one of the top four banks in SA, also served as chief executive for Tiger Brands, Primedia Broadcasting, Vodacom and the South African Broadcasting Corporation.
Matlare’s family paid tribute to him, describing him as a consummate professional who made an immense contribution to busines in South Africa and across the African continent.
The family said: “He was passionate about transforming businesses and believed deeply in the potential of Africa. He also created opportunities for dozens of young managers and professionals to expand their horizons in the businesses he led.
“Family was the cornerstone of Peter’s life. He was a pillar of strength around whom the family coalesced. He used his talent and passion for cooking to regularly gather the family for Sunday lunches, and maintain deep connections in the family. His support for family, friends and colleagues has left a lasting legacy.”
On social media, his colleagues and friends also paid tributes to him.
