TOP South African actress, radio presenter and model Pearl Thusi is to star in Netflix’s martial arts series ‘Wu Assassins’.
‘Wu Assassins’ is an American supernatural series about a young Chinatown chef named Kai Jin (played by Iko Uwais) in present-day San Francisco, who learns that he comes from a line of ancient assassins, and uses his enhanced martial arts skills to stop modern day criminals from reeking havoc around the world.
The action series features emerging and known faces in the cast including Tommy Flanagan (from Sons of Anarchy), Byron Mann, legendary actor Tzi Ma, Celia Au, and Katheryn Winnick.
According to Thusi’s Twitter post, she is currently on shooting a project in Thailand. Accompanying the post is footage of the actress training in martial arts and boxing, confirming reports that she will be the South African connection to the Netflix supernatural series.
Netflix confirmed in the last quarter of 2020 that the series would be returning to global screens, but they have yet to confirm returning cast members, or if the series will premiere a second season or a two-part film due to production limitations brought on by the covid-19 pandemic. However, production has begun shooting in Thailand.
The second season of ‘Wu Assassins’ will be Thusi’s second project with the American streaming giant.
Her first project was the first-ever African series for Netflix ‘Queen Sono’, which premiered for one season in 2020.
Netflix announced in January that it had cancelled the Thusi-led series which was due to film its second season, but would not go forth with it due to filming constraints and lockdowns across the African continent due to the pandemic.
Filming for the second season of Wu Assisnas is currently in production stages in Thailand.
