AWARD-WINNING South African afro-pop singer Simphiwe Dana, has come out of the closet.
Dana has disclosed that not only is she gay but that is also getting married.
The afrofeminist made the announcement on social media, posting a few lines about her impending nuptials to her yet-to-be-identified partner. Dana posted a photograph of her fiancée but did not name her.
Dana said: “I’m gay. I’ve been holding this in since forever. I’m gay”.
“I know coming out means Africa will block me. But, after a lot of thinking, I’m ok with it. I’m marrying a woman, and I’ve never been happier”, she followed.
Dana then confirmed her sexuality identity in an answer to a fan’s question, confirming that she identified as bisexual. She has two children from a previous marriage.
The singer also gushed about her future wife, posting a picture of her with the caption, “I’m marrying her. She’s coming home to me today. We are so happy”. She then ended her body of tweets with a single picture of herself and the words “This me. I’m gay”.
While under lockdown in South Africa Dana released her fifth album, Bamako in April, and announced to the shock of her fans that her fifth album would be her last solo album. The album was co-produced by legendary Malian vocalist Salif Keita.
