THE South African Football Association (SAFA) has fired coach Molefi Ntseki after the team failed to qualify for the 2022 AFCON tournament in Cameroon.

The national football team – Bafana Bafana – lost 0-2 to Sudan in a match which they needed just a point to qualify for the AFCON.

Motlanthe said he, as head of administration, would attend to all the legalities associated with the decision to part ways with the national coach. He conveyed SAFA’s apology to the nation for the failure to qualify for the AFCON.

He announced that SAFA’s technical committee will meet soon and begin the search for a coach who will lead Bafana Bafana’s quest to qualify for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. Ntseki’s replacement will be Bafana Bafana’s 10th coach in 15 years.

The departure of Ntseki, who accepted full responsibility for the failure to qualify, was expected. His 20 months reign involved only nine matches. He won four, drew two and lost three matches. He replaced Stuart Baxter in 2019.
