Kenya deal with the UK aims to turn Nairobi into Africa’s financial hub

Kenya and the United Kingdom were to sign a deal on Tuesday, July 27, that would shore up investment in Nairobi and turn the East African state’s capital into Africa’s financial hub, the Financial Times revealed.

Under the bilateral cooperation agreement, about 2 billion US dollars worth of deals will be sealed in the next five years — to help funnel international investment into Kenya and enable Nairobi to compete with Dubai over time as a conduit for trade in the region.

The deal includes closer links between the London and Nairobi stock exchanges, as well as moves to ease incorporation and registration of companies in Kenya, East Africa’s economic powerhouse.

Africa vaccine rollout gets international financial support

Africa’s bid to shrink its COVID-19 vaccine deficit has received another significant boost after the International Finance Corporation and four other institutions partnered with a Senegalese vaccine manufacturer, according to ICLG.

Vaccine manufacturer and not-for-profit organisation in Senegal, Institut Pasteur de Dakar (IPD) has formed a partnership with Washington, DC-headquartered international finance institution IFC, part of the World Bank Group, as well as four other institutions.

Under the collaboration agreement, IFC and French public financial institution Agence française de développement, the United States International Development Finance Corporation, the European Commission, and the European Union’s lending arm, the European Investment Bank, will provide a grant of up to 14 million US dollars to IPD.

World’s first 3D-printed school will open in Madagascar

Madagascar will soon become home to the world’s first 3D-printed school, New Straits Times reported.

It is an innovative concept designed by American philanthropist and founder of the Thinking Huts nonprofit, Maggie Grout, to help make education more accessible around the world.

To bring this school project to life, Grout teamed up with the architectural design agency Studio Mortazavi, based in San Francisco.

The pilot project will be built on the university campus of the Ecole de Management et d’Innovation Technologique (EMIT), in the city of Fianarantsoa in Madagascar, and will welcome students from preschool through high school.
