AT least 16 people, including six women and two children, have been killed in a suspected Islamist militant attack on a remote road in northeast Democratic Republic of Congo, according to the director of a local hospital said. The attack took place on a road near the town of Oicha, around 390 km (242 miles) north of the eastern provincial capital of Goma. SIXTEEN civilians were killed and others injured in northern Mali when their vehicle struck an explosive device, an army spokesman said yesterday. The incident took place late on Wednesday near the city of Gao, a part of Mali where militants with ties to al Qaeda regularly attack civilians, Malian and French soldiers and U.N. peacekeepers, army spokesman Souleymane Dembele told Reuters.
