Nigeria building collapse kills six, with others feared trapped

A shopping plaza under construction in Nigeria's southeastern Anambra state collapsed, killing at least six people, with others feared trapped in the rubble, the emergency agency said. The building, with more than 120 shops, collapsed in the city of Onitsha, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) said on Tuesday. "Some of the rescued persons have been taken to different hospitals in Onitsha for treatment," NEMA said. A search was underway for other survivors, it said. Building collapses are frequent in Africa's biggest economy and top oil producer due to lax regulations and often substandard construction materials.

Seven killed in building collapse in Ivory Coast

A six-storey building collapsed while under construction in Ivory Coast's commercial capital Abidjan, killing at least seven of the builders on site, firefighters at the scene said. Around midday local time, the workers heard cracking sounds and the building started to crumble around them, said caretaker and builder Jourdin Yoro. "In a rush, we started to run," Yoro said. 4 die in Ivory Coast building collapse

AT least six people, including two children, died when an apartment block collapsed in Ivory Coast's commercial capital of Abidjan overnight, the fire brigade said. Rescuers used torches to search through the mounds of broken concrete and carried out 36 people alive, officials said. One firefighter cradled a baby in the back of an ambulance. Six killed in building collapse in northern Egypt

At least six people died when an old four-storey building collapsed in the coastal city of Alexandria in northern Egypt, according to local officials. Authorities had issued several restoration orders for the old building, which collapsed on Wednesday evening, but they had been ignored, Alexandria province Governor Mohamed el-Sherief told reporters at the scene. Two families were living in the building and those killed included three men and three women, officials said.
