S.A assess efficacy of Sinopharm vaccine

SOUTH Africa's health regulator has received documentation for China's Sinopharm COVID-19 vaccine and will evaluate the data to assess the efficacy of the shot. Now in the grip of a third wave of infections, South Africa is inoculating its population with Johnson & Johnson and Pfizer vaccines, but the rollout has been slow partly due to setbacks in supply. It has vaccinated just over 2 million people, 3.6% of its population, one of the world's lowest rates. Sudan to receive Chinese vaccines

COVID-19

SUDAN will receive its first shipment of 250,000 doses of the Chinese Sinopharm COVID-19 vaccine tomorrow, according to state news agency SUNA. Sudan became the first country in the Middle East and North Africa region to receive vaccine doses through the COVAX facility this month when 828,000 doses of the shot produced by AstraZeneca arrived in the East African country.

Egypt gets more doses of Chinese coronavirus vaccine

EGYPT received another 300,000 doses of a coronavirus vaccine developed by China National Pharmaceutical Group (Sinopharm) in the early hours of Saturday, the health ministry said in a statement. The third shipment from China of the Sinopharm vaccine brings the total doses delivered to Egypt to 650,000 since December. Some 600,000 of those were a gift from Beijing and the rest were sent by the UAE. The North African country also got 50,000 doses of a vaccine developed by AstraZeneca in February. Zimbabwe buys 600,000 vaccines

ZIMBABWE has purchased 600,000 COVID-19 vaccine doses from China's Sinopharm, in addition to 200,000 China has donated, its information minister said yesterday, adding these were due to arrive in Zimbabwe by the start of March. Zimbabwe to get 200,000 COVID-19 doses from China

ZIMBABWE will receive 200,000 free doses of China's Sinopharm COVID-19 vaccine, President Emmerson Mnangagwa said yesterday, after China and Russia offered shots against the coronavirus to the impoverished southern African nation.
