ZIMBABWE’S health ministry has approved the use of China's Sinovac Biotech COVID-19 vaccine for 16- and 17-year-olds, has announced, adding that the country aimed to achieve herd immunity by the end of December. The ministry said in a statement that it had taken the decision after a recommendation from specialist paediatricians and was still considering whether to vaccinate younger children. CHINA’S Sinovac Biotech will trial its COVID-19 vaccine in children and adolescents in South Africa as part of a global Phase III study, according to Sinovac and its local partner Numolux Group. The study will evaluate the efficacy, immunogenicity and safety of the CoronaVac vaccine on children and adolescents aged 6 months to 17 years, the firms said in a statement.
