UGANDA'S main opposition party said its leader Bobi Wine had been detained at the airport as he returned from a trip abroad, but police said they had accompanied him to his residence. In recent years Robert Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine, has emerged as the strongest challenger to President Yoweri Museveni, 79, who has been in power in the East African country since 1986. Uganda opposition figure Besigye freed on bail after two weeks

A court in Uganda released veteran opposition figure Kizza Besigye on bail on Friday after spending two weeks in jail awaiting trial on charges of inciting violence. Besigye, 66, was detained on June 14 in the capital Kampala as he led protests against sky-rocketing consumer prices and was charged with inciting violence the following day. His initial bail application made on the day he was charged was denied.
