Cyberbullying of Miss SA condemned

MPHO RANTAO

THE Miss South Africa organisation has condemned the personal attacks and bullying against the current holder Shudufhadzo Musida, who had been insulted and accused of “wasting time” on her photoshoots by social media users instead of focusing on more important things like her duties as Miss South Africa.

The reigning pageant queen had posted an image of herself in a bikini swimsuit and bucket hat by the poolside. While there was an outpour of compliments for Musida, there were some Twitter users who saw her photoset as the Limpopo-native lacking on her duties as Miss SA.

Miss SA CEO Stephanie Weil defended Musida to South African online publication TshisaLive, and condemned the personal attacks that Musida had been facing online. Weil said that the pageant winner deserved rest after being recently crowned and completing her honours last year.

“In response to social media comments about Miss SA posting images of herself in a swimsuit, taken at her apartment on the weekend, we would like to point out Shudu has been on a well-deserved holiday after a whirlwind and demanding timetable following her crowning in October last year, a period in which she also completed her honours in international relations at the University of Witwatersrand”, said Weil.

Musida herself has not commented on the issue directly, but other South Africans jumped to her defence, calling out the cyberbullies who have continued to harass her since her crowning in October.
