ONE of Uganda’s leading religious leaders has been found dead.
Dr Cyprian Kizito Lwanga, the Archbishop of Kampala, was found in his room during the holiest period for Christians around the world. His death was confirmed by Father Pius Ssentumbwe, the Chancellor of Kampala confirmed, in a letter to parishioners.
“With deep sorry, I hereby inform that our beloved shepherd, Archbishop of Kampala Archdiocese, His Grace Dr Cyprian Kizito Lwanga has been called to the house of the Lord. The Archbishop was found dead in his room this morning. We pray that the Almight and Merciful God grant him eternal rest,” Father Ssentumbwe said, adding that funeral arrangments would be communicated later.
Bishop Ssentumbwe was known, among others, for being a strong critic of the government of President Yoweri Museveni. Just 24 before he died, he criticised human rights abuse in Uganda.
