Nigerian forward Ejuke signed to Sevilla FC

NIGERIAN Chidera Ejuke has been announced as the first signing for Spanish outfit Sevilla FC in the summer transfer window.

In an official statement via its website, the club said, “Sevilla FC has reached an agreement with the Nigerian footballer Chidera Ejuke to become a new player for the Nervionense team, joining García Pimienta’s squad as a free agent and signing for three seasons, until June 2027.”

Ejuke has had a successful stint with CSKA Moscow, scoring 10 goals and providing eight assists. He also made his debut in European competition, featuring in five matches in the UEFA Europa League. Ejuke, a right-footed player positioned on the left wing, has been instrumental in providing crucial support during both his club and international matches.

He described himself as a player who thrives on fun and enjoys all aspects of the game, from passing and dribbling to hard work. While preferring left wing, he adapts easily and admires Brazilian footballer Neymar’s exceptional play.

Following his time with CSKA, the left winger went on loan to Bundesliga side Hertha Berlin and then Royal Antwerp Belgium, where he gained valuable experience playing alongside talented players and making appearances in the UEFA Champions League. His season in Belgium resulted in a tally of five goals and six assists for Mark van Bommel’s side.

“That a club like this is interested in me is something huge. Since my agent told me that they were interested, I was happy and excited about what was about to happen. Communication has been easy and I am happy that everything has gone as it has gone.”

The right-footed winger joins a former teammate from his Hertha Berlin days in Dodi Lukebakio, who Ejuke told the La Liga side was excited to play alongside on the field once more.

“I know it’s a good city and I know it’s a great club with good traditions. He has won many trophies in recent years. So I know it’s a great club and it’s a club that has ambitions, they always want to be at the top, competing for trophies and everything,” he said.

“I think that with the calibre of the team players and, obviously, with me entering, I know that we can do everything possible to return the club to where it should be. There will be challenges, obviously, during these periods, but I know that, as a team, we will be united to achieve it, because as I said, it is a great club and that it deserves to be where it should be.”

Ejuke’s signing makes him the first-ever Nigerian to don the elastic Nervionense jersey. The winger said that this information made him honoured to be a part of the team, along with his pride for his eight caps for the Nigeria men’s senior national team in international games following a debut in 2020.
