Kenyan air strike kills woman and her child

A Somali mother and her child were killed and four others injured when a Kenyan warplane bombed two towns in southern Somalia, the woman's husband said has revealed. The bombing by the Kenyan plane occurred in two towns in the Gedo area in Somalia's semi-autonomous state of Jubbaland. The Somali government has condemned what it called "indiscriminate air strikes" in El Ade and Hisa-u-Gur towns carried out by Kenyan forces. Jubbaland rejects president’s inclusion

ONE of five of Somalia's regional governments said on Sunday it had rejected the inclusion of national President Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed in talks aimed at resolving a deadlock on a delayed election, exacerbating a crisis on the vote. Leaders in the two federal states, Puntland and Jubbaland, had already said earlier this month they would no longer recognise President Mohamed, whose term expired on Feb.8. The delay has stoked tensions in the Horn of…

At least 11 killed after fighting erupts in Somalia’s Jubbaland

ABDIQANI HASSAN AT least 11 people were killed yesterday after fighting broke out between the Somali federal army and Jubbaland state forces in the Gedo region of southwestern Somalia, a local doctor told Reuters. Somalia's federal government confirmed there had been fighting, concentrated in the town of Bula Hawa bordering Kenya. But it and Jubbaland, one of Somalia's five semi-autonomous states, reported no casualties. Mogadishu accused Kenya of backing Jubbaland in the fighting, an accusation that Jubbaland denies. "Kenya and its guerrilla rebels attacked Bula Hawa town last night," Osman Dube, Somalia's information minister, told reporters in Mogadishu. "We overpowered…
