Cardi B first female rapper to be certified diamond

AFRICAN MIRROR REPORTER

BRONX rapper Cardi B continues to ride through 2021 on a high – her popular single Bodak Yellow has received the highest RIAA certification of diamond.

The rapper learned of her song’s new certification while rehearsing for her performance at the Grammy Awards, tweeting her excitement in a video over the news with the caption: “You guys are going to be so happy. I’m soo happy!!!”.

Cardi B’s ‘Bodak Yellow’ was released in 2017 and was not only the single that pushed Cardi B into the mainstream spotlight, but it was one of her singles to receive multi-platinum certifications before being certified diamond.

According to the RIAA, (Recording Industry Association of America), for a song to be certified diamond, it would have to be certified 10-times platinum and sold 10 million units. The diamond certification of ‘Bodak Yellow’ makes Cardi B the first ever female rapper to achieve the musical milestone.

The RIAA sent a congratulatory tweet to Cardi, after previously posting a video of Cardi receiving a five-time platinum plaque for her 2020 single ‘WAP’ featuring Megan Thee Stallion.

In her video posted to Instagram and Twitter, the rapper explained how the plaque was revealed while she was preparing for the Grammy Awards.

“I know I’ve been rehearsing all day today, I’m really stressed out, my body’s aching”, Cardi said. “At rehearsal, they said to me, ‘Yo you gotta meet up with Atlantic execs.’ I’m like, ‘Yo I’m f—-g tired like I don’t wanna talk about no Grammys, I don’t wanna talk about no album, I’m just tired.”

Despite her fatigue, Cardi was driven to a restaurant for a surprise like no other. And she’s thanked her fans for making it happen.

“I just wanna say thank you guys so much without you guys, this wouldn’t have happened. This really made my day and really uplifted me for this crazy performance. I know you guys are gonna be really happy”, she said.
