Kenya’s suspected serial killer held for the murder of 42 women

A man suspected of being one of Kenya’s worst serial killers has been arrested for the murder of 42 women, including his wife.

According to the Kenyan Police, 33-year-old Collins Jumaisi was arrested after the discovery of several bodies in Mukuru, south of Nairobi.

The police said Jumaisi has confessed to killing 42 women since 2022, starting with his wife. The most recent murder allegedly took place on July 11, 2024. So far, nine bodies have been recovered from the quarry.

Amin Mohamed, head of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, described Jumaisi as a “psychopathic serial killer who has no respect for human life.” Police found evidence at Jumaisi’s home including mobile phones, identity cards, a machete believed to be used in the killings, and other items potentially linked to the crimes.

The discovery of the bodies has caused unrest in the area, with some residents speculating about a connection to recent protest-related abductions. However, police have not indicated any link between the remains and the protests.

Authorities are working to identify the victims through sample analysis. The case has drawn significant attention, with President William Ruto addressing concerns about abductions by state agents earlier this month and the resignation of Kenya’s police chief on Friday, July 12.
