IN a stunning revelation that has sent shockwaves through Benue State’s political and social circles, Dr. Mkor Aondona, the Special Adviser to the Executive Governor of Benue State on Documentation, Research, and Planning, has been arrested on allegations of “sex for jobs” as well as extortion.
The arrest by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Makurdi followed a series of damning allegations from female students accusing the governor’s aide of egregious sexual exploitation, cyberbullying, and blackmail.
According to petitions filed with the EFCC, Dr. Aondona allegedly targeted “beautiful and slim” young women, recruiting them under the pretence of offering ushering jobs at official events. However, the selection process was reportedly contingent on the women providing sexual favours to the aide. Victims claim that once involved, they were coerced into sexual relationships, often unaware that Dr. Aondona was secretly recording these encounters without their consent.
The allegations take a darker turn with claims that Dr. Aondona used these illicitly obtained videos as tools of intimidation and control. Victims were reportedly threatened with the public release of the explicit footage should they refuse to continue the sexual liaisons. Furthermore, some of these videos have allegedly been circulated across multiple messaging platforms, deepening the trauma and humiliation of the victims.
Sources close to the investigation revealed that this pattern of behaviour is not new. Before his political appointment, Dr. Aondona served as a lecturer at Benue State University (BSU), where similar accusations of sexual misconduct and exploitation were reportedly made against him, ultimately leading to his dismissal. Yet, despite these past allegations, he secured a high-profile advisory role in the state government.
Governor Hyacinth Alia has since responded decisively to the scandal. In a statement issued on Sunday, June 22, 2025, the governor announced the immediate and indefinite suspension of Dr. Aondona. The governor emphasised his administration’s commitment to integrity, discipline, and accountability, vowing that no official found guilty of criminal or ethical misconduct would be shielded from justice. The statement also underscored the government’s dedication to protecting the rights and dignity of women and vulnerable groups, pledging full cooperation with law enforcement agencies to ensure justice is served.
The EFCC has confirmed that Dr. Aondona will soon be charged in court as investigations continue. This case highlights the urgent need for vigilance against abuses of power and the exploitation of vulnerable individuals within political structures.
The arrest of Dr. Mkor Aondona serves as a stark reminder that public office is a sacred trust, and any deviation into criminality and exploitation will be met with the full weight of the law. The unfolding legal proceedings are being closely watched by the public, who demand accountability and justice for the victims of this sordid scandal.
