Mitsubishi South Africa launches GLX double cab

Local is lekker for Mitsubishi South Africa as it launches new GLX double cab model.
Throughout the lifespan of the current Triton, Mitsubishi Motors South Africa has continued to offer models that cater for the exacting needs of South African customers. This has resulted in a variety of locally developed special edition models including the Triton Xtreme in 2020 and the launch of the Triton GL single and double cab derivatives and the Triton Heritage Edition in 2022.
The Triton Xtreme was shown earlier this year at Nampo and just recently the café racer inspired Triton Athlete hit the road in South Africa. When launched last year Mitsubishi’s Triton GL double cab was aimed at fleet customers and owners of small and medium enterprises (SMEs), but it very quickly found favour with lifestyle customers too, thanks to its accessibility, versatility and bold contemporary styling.
“The launch of the Triton GL has been beneficial in allowing MMSA to offer our customers greater versatility in the commercial vehicle market and attract more of those customers to the Mitsubishi brand,” says Jeffrey Allison, General Manager: Marketing at Mitsubishi Motors South Africa (MMSA).
For these customers the level of specification included along with modern styling and legendary Mitsubishi reliability at a more affordable price point continues to represent a sweet spot in terms of value for money.
“However, it quickly became clear that the value for money proposition that the Triton GL double cab represents appealed to leisure customers as much as it did to those looking for a stylish workhorse. The fitment of a number of choice accessories to the limited edition GLX should cement its position as a vehicle that can fulfil both these roles seamlessly,” says Allison.
Now, Mitsubishi Motors South Africa are launching a GLX double cab that builds on those strengths by refining the product offering with a variety of additional standard specification. The addition of the choice accessories ensures that the limited edition Triton GLX is ready for anything that a working or lifestyle environment can throw at it.
A great balance of performance and fuel economy
Under the bonnet of the Triton Double Cab GLX is a tried and tested DOHC intercooled turbodiesel engine that boasts 100kW and 324Nm of torque.
The Triton GLX Double Cab utilises a 4×2 drivetrain, limited-slip differential and six-speed manual transmission that is capable of handling a wide variety of work and leisure tasks and doesn’t shy away from light off-roading or gravel road driving.
This engine and drivetrain combination also offers an excellent balance of performance and fuel economy, utilising just 8,0 litres/100km on the combined cycle, which is a real boon giving the record high fuel prices. As with all Triton models the limited edition GLX rides on a rigid ladder frame chassis, that facilitates excellent handling and stability across a wide variety of road surfaces.
Double wishbones with coil springs upfront and leaf spring rear suspension ensures a good combination of comfort and load carrying ability of up to 1-ton. The towing of leisure items or work trailers is now possible thanks to a neatly integrated Triton double tube tow bar.
Ready for work or play
The spacious load bed measures 1 520mm in length, 1 470mmm in width and is 475mm deep. The single rear tailgate handle enables one handed operation and has been upgraded with the Triton Tailgate lock on this model. Load bin contents is now kept out of sight thanks to a Keko Tonneau cover.
Adding a touch of style is a black Keko Sport bar.The list of creature comforts is comprehensive for this price point and includes keyless entry, central locking, an immobiliser, electric windows, air-conditioning and a touchscreen radio/CD player that has been upgraded with a Sony audio system in this limited edition model.
On the Triton GLX, Mitsubishi’s Dynamic Shield front design is complimented by a Black Triton Low Nudge bar.
Safety comes standard
Despite its value for money price point the limited edition Triton GLX is fitted with an extensive list of standard safety equipment including ABS brakes with EBD as well as Isofix child seat anchors. Occupant safety is ensured by a high-impact safety structure and airbags for the driver and front passenger.
Warranty and service
Mitsubishi’s entire commercial vehicle line up including the Triton GLX double cab is covered by a three-year/100 000km manufacturer’s warranty as standard. A five-year/90 000km service plan and five-year/unlimited roadside assistance ensures peace of mind and cost-effective motoring. Service intervals are set for every 10 000km.
“The limited edition Triton GLX is a real all-rounder that can fulfil roles as a workhorse and a lifestyle vehicle thanks to a high level of standard specification that allows those looking for a premium double cab, but shopping on a budget to drive a vehicle that can handle their usage requirements while still offering them everything they will need from a double cab,” concludes Allison.
