Star-studded entertainment lineup set to electrify Basketball Africa League playoffs in Pretoria

THE Basketball Africa League has assembled an all-star entertainment roster featuring South Africa’s biggest music acts to headline halftime performances during the 2025 BAL Playoffs and Finals at SunBet Arena from June 6-14.

Multi-platinum rapper Cassper Nyovest will kick off the festivities on opening night, performing during Friday’s high-stakes seeding game between Al Ahli Tripoli and Al Ittihad at 7:00 p.m. The Libyan squad, anchored by former NBA guard Jaylen Adams, faces Egypt’s Al Ittihad, led by ex-NBA forward George King, in what promises to be an explosive opener both on and off the court.

The entertainment firepower doesn’t stop there. Chart-topping artists Ch’cco, Aymos, Blxckie, Bassie, Maglera Doe Boy, and Focalistic will command the spotlight throughout the nine-day basketball extravaganza, delivering performances timed to basketball’s most crucial moments.

Focalistic, the amapiano sensation, has been tapped for the championship finale on June 14, bringing his infectious energy to the BAL Finals halftime show. Fellow hitmaker Maglera Doe Boy will join The Unit Acrobats for the closing ceremony, capping off what organisers expect to be the most entertainment-heavy BAL Finals in the league’s five-year history.

The stellar lineup reflects the BAL’s commitment to showcasing African talent beyond basketball. Rising stars Robot Boii, Zee Nxumalo & TBO, and acrobatic groups The Unit Acrobats and Fuego Dance Group round out the entertainment card, ensuring each playoff session delivers a premium spectacle.

“This is the biggest entertainment investment we’ve made for BAL Finals week,” said a league spokesperson. “We’re bringing together the continent’s top basketball talent with South Africa’s music elite.”

Eight teams have punched their tickets to Pretoria following group phase competition across Morocco, Senegal, and Rwanda. The playoff field features powerhouses from seven African nations, including Nigeria’s Rivers Hoopers, Angola’s Petro de Luanda, and Tunisia’s US Monastir.

The BAL Fan Zone at SunBet Arena will complement the on-court action with merchandise, food vendors, and DJ performances, creating a festival atmosphere throughout the championship week.

Tickets for all playoff and Finals games are available through Ticketmaster.co.za, with the championship game scheduled for 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 14.

The Basketball Africa League, a joint venture between FIBA and NBA Africa, continues its mission to elevate African basketball while celebrating the continent’s rich cultural heritage through sport and entertainment.
