A horrific knife attack at a children’s dance workshop in Southport, Merseyside, England has left two children dead and 11 others injured, including six children and two adults fighting for their lives. The incident occurred at a Taylor Swift-themed event on Monday morning.
A 17-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of murder and attempted murder. The attack took place around 11:50 am, just as the workshop was ending. Witnesses described scenes of chaos as injured children fled the building.
Merseyside Police Chief Constable Serena Kennedy confirmed that two adults were injured while trying to protect the children. The victims have been taken to multiple hospitals, with Alder Hey Children’s Hospital declaring a major incident.
Prime Minister Keir Starmer and Home Secretary Yvette Cooper expressed their shock and offered support to the victims and their families. The police are still investigating the motive behind the attack but have stated it is not being treated as terror-related.
The community is in shock, with local residents and parents describing the incident as something out of a “horror movie.” Emergency services responded quickly, with multiple ambulances and police units on the scene.
