IN one of Johannesburg’s most affluent suburbs, where luxury cars glide past gated estates and children are ferried to elite schools in pristine vehicles, a sinister operation was hiding in plain sight.
On the morning of March 19, 2025, a quiet street in Riversands View Extension, Fourways, became the epicentre of a major drug bust. Three Nigerian nationals – Emmanuel Chibuzor Nwozor (36), Iwuzi Kenneth (42), and Timothy Chidubem John (26) – were arrested in a high-stakes takedown by a multi-unit law enforcement team.
The most shocking revelation? One of the vehicles seized – a Toyota Corolla – was being used as a scholar transport, carrying innocent children to school by day while allegedly trafficking drugs by night.
Parents who entrusted their children to the vehicle had no idea that the same car used to ferry their kids was also being used to distribute narcotics. The discovery sent ripples of outrage through the community, exposing how brazenly drug syndicates operate, even in the most unsuspecting places.
Acting on intelligence from the Germiston Serious Organised Crime Investigation team, authorities launched a meticulously planned operation involving Crime Intelligence (JHB District), Gauteng PES Flexi (Brixton), Johannesburg Metro Police, and the Hawks’ Provincial Organised Crime Unit.
The raid uncovered drugs hidden inside three vehicles, all confiscated by the state. Forensic analysis is underway at the Pretoria Forensic Science Laboratory to determine the exact substances involved.
Police have linked the suspects to a similar case in Diepsloot, where they allegedly violated the Drugs and Drug Trafficking Act (Act 140 of 1992). This suggests a broader network operating across Johannesburg, exploiting vulnerable communities while infiltrating even the most secure suburbs.
The trio made their first court appearance at the Randburg Magistrates’ Court on March 20, where the case was postponed to March 27 for a formal bail application.
Major General Ebrahim Kadwa, Gauteng’s Provincial Head of the Hawks, praised the operation: “This success is a testament to the relentless efforts of our law enforcement agencies. We will not allow drug syndicates to poison our communities – no matter where they hide.”
The bust has left Fourways residents shaken, forcing parents to question who they trust with their children. It also serves as a stark reminder: **crime knows no boundaries – not even in the wealthiest enclaves.
