Nicolas Jackson has been voted the LaLiga Santander Player of the Month in May. The African striker’s five goals have been decisive in helping the Yellow Submarine to 10 points out of a possible 15 in the five matches played in May.
Villarreal CF has secured the fifth spot in the LaLiga Santander standings with one game to go thanks to three victories and a draw in May, a month in which Jackson has stood out above all the rest.
The Senegalese striker started the month by scoring his team’s goal in the 1-1 draw against Valencia CF and would later score a brace in the 5-1 win over Athletic Club and the 2-0 win over Cadiz CF. There is no doubt that Jackson is on a roll, as evidenced by the fact that he has scored a total of eight goals in his last eight outings for his club in LaLiga Santander.
Nicolas Jackson wins the award for the first time in his career and succeeds another African striker, Sevilla FC’s Youssef En-Nesyri, who won the award in April. Jackson beat off competition from Lázaro Vinícius (UD Almeria), Alejandro Balde (FC Barcelona), Takefusa Kubo (Real Sociedad), Yannick Carrasco (Atletico de Madrid), Justin Kluivert (Valencia CF) and Sergi Darder (RCD Espanyol) in the final vote.
