Trevor Noah publicly embarrasses US senator

AFRICAN MIRROR REPORTER

COMEDIAN Trevor Noah publicly humiliated an American senator in the best way only he knew how – through comedy.

Texas senator Ted Cruz was awfully humbled by the South African comedian and television host on the public stage of Twitter when his attempts at shaming the comedian backfired.

Cruz publicly criticised one of Noah’s segments on the USA’s reappointments of its congress due to population shifts across the North American country.

Even though Cruz himself was not mentioned in the segment, the conservative politician felt the need to attack Noah on Twitter.

“Trevor Noah whines that people are fleeing high-tax blue states & moving in droves to low-tax states like Texas, where the jobs are,” wrote Cruz. “Doesn’t understand why people like freedom.”

Through The Daily Show’s Twitter account, Noah responded with “Not sure I’d be using the words ‘fleeing’ and ‘Texas’ in the same sentence, Senator Cancun.”

Noah’s rebuttal is referring to the widespread condemnation of Cruz, who travelled to Cancun, Mexico with his family during a brutal snowstorm that severely affected Texas.

The snowstorm resulted in cut water & electricity supplies to houses, job losses due to lack of movement from blocked roads, a hunger crisis, severe infrastructure damage and in some cases death due to hypothermia.

Failing to give a rebuttal, Cruz replied with the standard comeback, “I wear your scorn with pride. I remember when The Daily Show was funny.”

Many Americans were not pleased with Cruz’s tweet, criticising his ignorance.

@Official_TT1234 wrote: “I remember when 100 people including children died while Cruz was enjoying the heat in cancun. I remember hospital staff running around trying to find water. I remember a boy finding his little bro had died next to him in bed. I remember people praying to survive w/o insulin.”

TV host Akilah Hughes wrote: “Sometimes I think Ted Cruz has a public humiliation fetish.”

Noah then claimed online victory when he came back to Cruz’s lacklustre reply with a reminder of when then-President Donald Trump insulted Cruz’s wife.

“And with that,” tweeted Noah, “Ted Cruz has officially fought back harder against a tweet from a late night show than he ever did when Trump called his wife ugly.”
