South Africa beats Sao Tome

AFRICAN MIRROR REPORTER

SOUTH African international star Percy Tau played a blinder to lead Bafana Bafana to an impressive 2-0 lead over Sao Tome in a qualifier for the AFCON 2021 tournament scheduled for Cameroon.

The victory placed the South African national team second and in the hunt for qualification in a group led by Ghana. The match was played in an empty Moses Mabhida Stadium, in Durban, because of COVID-19 restrictions.

Tau, who plays for Belgian side Andrelecht, ran rings around the Sao Tome defence in a man-of-the-match performance. He capped his day with a goal, scoring from the penalty spot in the 55th minute, after he was brought down in the penalty.

The goal spurred South Africa to press the visitors harder and could have increased their lead had it not been for the lacklustre finish of both Lebohang Manyama and Keagan Dolly.

Bongani Zungu, who came in for Kamohelo Mokotjo, showed class from the first touch. The Glascow Rangers midfielder rose above the Sao Tome defence in the 89th minute to head home Bafana Bafana’s second goal.
